CANTON, GA — Nearly 500 job seekers registered for the Cherokee Career Expo last week, meeting face-to-face with more than 20 local employers and leaving with new opportunities – and in some cases, interviews on the spot.

Hosted by the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED), the event drew a steady crowd of residents looking to advance their careers closer to home. Participating employers represented industries ranging from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to hospitality, logistics, and professional services.

Several employers reported strong engagement and successful outcomes, including onsite interviews and additional meetings already scheduled for the coming days.

“The Cherokee Career Expo gives us a chance to connect directly with candidates who are excited to serve their community,” said Jessica Hallman, Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinator for Cherokee Recreation and Parks. “We’ve already scheduled several interviews and are looking forward to meeting potential team members who are passionate about making an impact with our company.”

“The Career Expo is an important part of our recruitment strategy. It is always well-attended and provides us with a range of qualified candidates that we can choose from,” said Cherry Dobbs, the Human Resources Generalist at Bug Busters. “This year’s event was well organized, and our booth was busy from start to finish. Overall, it was a successful event for us!”

COED President Heath Tippens said the event reflects Cherokee County’s strong labor market and community commitment to local opportunity.

“Events like the Cherokee Career Expo help strengthen our local economy by connecting residents with great jobs right here in Cherokee,” Tippens said. “It’s rewarding to see so many people walk away with new possibilities.”

In partnership with Goodwill of North Georgia, the Cherokee Career Expo also hosted free day-of resume review assistance beginning at 1 p.m., as well as Jobseeker Virtual Bootcamps in the days leading up to the expo. Jobseekers also had the opportunity to attend the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce’s Cherokee Work Readiness in order to prepare.

Employers who missed the expo or want to keep the momentum going are encouraged to post their open positions to COED’s free local job board at jobs.cherokeega.org. The platform allows businesses to share openings and link directly to their preferred application site, while job seekers can browse current listings and apply directly for opportunities close to home.
