(March 11, 2026) – The Cherokee County Community Development Agency is offering two internship opportunities for the summer of 2026, providing students with valuable hands-on experience in local government. One internship is supported by funding from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Civic Affairs Foundation through its Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP).

Applicants can choose between the GCIP internship, which supports the newly created Cherokee Regional Land Bank Authority with special projects, or an internship assisting the Community Development Agency with a variety of special projects related to the department’s work.

In addition to completing specific project assignments, interns will have the opportunity to shadow staff members, attend meetings with customers and residents, and gain firsthand insight into community development operations and local government service. Interns may also attend evening meetings and deliver public presentations as assigned.

The internships are temporary, part-time positions of up to 29 hours per week from late May through early August. Exact dates and schedules are flexible. Interns will earn $15.61 per hour.

Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in a college or university and pursuing a degree in public administration, planning, architecture, public policy, political science, geography, engineering, or a related field. Candidates should have strong research and presentation skills and an interest in pursuing a career in local government. No prior experience is required, and all necessary training will be provided. Descriptions of both internship positions can be found at: https://www.cherokeecountyga.gov/Human-Resources/employment-opportunities/. Applicants should email a cover letter, resume, and three professional references (contact information only) to Brantley Day at bday@cherokeecountyga.gov. Interviews are expected to take place in March and April, with offers extended to finalists by April 15. This timeline is tentative and subject to change. The deadline to apply is March 24, 2026.
