(Nov. 18, 2024) – Cherokee Recreation and Parks to host lineup of holiday themed events aimed at families and children of all ages.

“With activities ranging from personalized calls and letters from Santa to a unique swim event with the Grinch and a holiday market, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this December,” said Cherokee Recreation and Parks Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator Jessica Hallman.

Families can kick off the holiday fun by signing up for Santa’s Calling, a free opportunity for children to receive a personal call from Santa and his elves. Parents or guardians will need to submit the request form by Monday, Dec. 9. Santa will be making calls on Wednesday, Dec. 11 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Forms can be submitted online, by mail, or in person at Cherokee Recreation and Parks locations at the Recreation Center in Woodstock (The WREC) located at 7545 Main St., Bldg. 200 in Woodstock or at the L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens Recreation Center located at 7545 Cumming Hwy in Canton.

Adding to the holiday spirit, children can also send letters to Santa through the special North Pole mailbox located in the lobby of the The WREC. After dropping off their letters, each child will receive a personalized reply directly from the North Pole. Letters will be accepted from Nov. 1 through Dec. 13 and Santa will mail out replies on Friday, Dec. 15. This free service provides a fun way for children to connect with Santa.

The holiday festivities continue with Santa’s Workshop, a family-friendly holiday market offering sleigh rides, photos with Santa and a variety of craft and gift vendors, including the Children’s Entrepreneur Market. This event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Valley Playground in J.J. Biello Park located at 175 Brooke Blvd. in Woodstock.

Families looking for a unique experience can join in the Swim with the Grinch event on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center located 1200 Wellstar Way in Canton. This fun event includes pool games, a holiday tree decorating activity, crafts, a hot chocolate and coffee bar and pictures with the Grinch himself. Families can select from two time slots: 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, with free admission for those age two and under. Participants should pre-register for their preferred time slot at PlayCherokee.org.
