At the August 11 meeting, the City of Woodstock Mayor and Council unanimously adopted the fifth-year update to its Comprehensive Transportation Plan — a roadmap for major infrastructure improvements that’s putting the city ahead of the curve for its size.
The update keeps projects moving while preparing for a full-scale overhaul in 2026 and includes public-driven priorities like:
- Exploring a citywide sidewalk master plan for better pedestrian connectivity
- More frequent public project update meetings
- Clearer communication on City vs. County transportation projects
Major initiatives underway or planned:
- Smart traffic management technology & adaptive signal timing
- New roundabouts to keep traffic flowing
- Targeted turn lanes to reduce backups
- Safer crosswalks, sidewalks, and trail connections
- Smart parking to reduce downtown congestion
Deputy City Manager Coty Thigpen:
“This plan reflects the voices of our community. The next overhaul in 2026 will build on this foundation and take an even broader look at how we connect people and places.”
Mayor Michael Caldwell:
“Cities our size and scale do not typically have a comprehensive transportation plan… This is a big deal, and we should be proud of it.”
