WOODSTOCK, GA (August 7, 2025) – On Tuesday, August 5th, Woodstock City Officials celebrated a groundbreaking at the site of Little River Park. Mayor Michael Caldwell, Council Member for Ward 5 Brian Wolfe, and City Manager Jeff Moon made remarks before they and other City Council Members dug shovels into the ground as the symbolic start of construction at the site of what will be Woodstock’s largest park.
“Thank you to the City Council and to the staff, to the Woodstock Parks and Rec Advisory Board, and to everyone who has worked so hard to get this across the finish line,” said Mayor Michael Caldwell. “This is a gift for my children, for your children, and for their children’s children. How often do we get to give something like this to generations in the future?”
The construction of Little River Park was made possible by a parks bond referendum passed in 2023 by 87% of Woodstock voters. The 110-acre park will transform Woodstock’s outdoor recreational landscape, doubling the amount of greenspace in the city.
“Thank you to the staff and the residents who have joined us today for this groundbreaking,” said Council Member Brian Wolfe. “Their public input truly helped develop the concept and the idea behind what we are building here.”
Little River Park will feature an extensive trail system stretching along Little River from Trickum Road to the Woodlands subdivision, a lake for fishing and paddling and a water trail on Little River that extends to Olde Rope Mill Park, as well as new playgrounds and outdoor recreation programming. Construction of Little River Park will be concurrent with the construction of a roundabout on Trickum Road located at the future park’s main entrance.
The City of Woodstock plans to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Little River Park when construction is complete in the Fall of 2026. For updates on the City’s Parks Bond and Little River Park, go to woodstockga.gov/parksbond.
