(FEB. 9, 2026) — Cherokee County, in partnership with the Charlie Ferguson Community Center, the city of Canton, and the Atlanta Regional Commission, is developing a small area plan to help shape the future of the historic Pearidge community.

Cherokee County was named a recipient of the Community Development Assistance Program by the ARC last May. Cherokee County applied for the program and was one of seven recipients selected through a competitive process. The ARC provides staffing to support the Pearidge Small Area Plan development. The Pearidge study will consist of an analysis of existing conditions and thorough community engagement to formalize the community’s vision. Once completed, a planning report will provide the community a blueprint to preserve and maintain the historic vibrancy of the neighborhood while preparing for the future.

Public engagement for the small area plan will take on a more in-person, face-to-face communication effort to ensure residents of the Pearidge community have strong input on the small area plan.

The next event for community conversation will focus on the past, present and future of the Pearidge Community. It will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 at from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Iglesia Emmanuel, 1461 Reinhardt College Pkwy., Canton. Pearidge Community members are encouraged to attend.
