(Sept. 6, 2024) – A new initiative highlighting residents of Cherokee County launched Friday, Sept. 6 on Cherokee County’s YouTube channel, Facebook page and Instagram account.

“Love Where You Live” is an initiative that celebrates the people and stories that make Cherokee County special and features local residents sharing why Cherokee County is a place they love to call home.

“The idea began about a year ago with a request from Chairman Harry Johnston. It has evolved into a multimedia project that not only tells stories of our residents and why they love living in Cherokee County but also includes an element that supports the great work local non-profits are doing right here in our community,” said Communications Director Erika Neldner. “It has been a privilege to work on this project with these local residents, and we hope this initiative grows and continues for years to come.”

The initiative highlights a series of inspiring stories from Cherokee County residents from all walks of life. Through video profiles released bi-weekly on the county’s YouTube channel and social media through Nov. 15, the series showcases the deep sense of community, connection, and compassion that are at the heart of Cherokee County.

In addition to celebrating community members, the initiative also includes a give-back component. T-shirts, featuring a logo designed by Waleska resident Amanda Brown, will be sold at local events, such as the Great Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 12 at Cherokee Veterans Park, with proceeds benefiting selected local non-profits. This community-focused element serves as a commitment to fostering a spirit of giving and service.

Those who purchase Love Where You Live T-shirts are encouraged to wear them on Love Where You Live Friday and post to social media with the hashtag #lwylcherokeega. Love Where You Live Fridays coincides with the video launches, which are the first and third Fridays of the month through Nov. 15. Beginning in December, a new video will premiere the first Friday of every month.

The first six videos in the series will feature Jamie Foreman of Menagerie on Main, Millie Hughes with Never Alone Community Food Pantry, Reyes Morales of Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q, Greg Shaddix of MadLife Stage and Studios, Tannish Welch of The Charlie Ferguson Community Center, and Woodstock resident Robin Wright. Each story reflects a unique connection to Cherokee County and highlights what makes this area such a great place to live, work, and play.

“Our community’s strength comes from its people,” said Johnston. “We’re excited to showcase these stories and inspire others to recognize and appreciate the greatness around us.”

Residents are invited to follow along with the initiative by watching the videos, available on the county’s social media platforms, and by joining in the give-back effort through T-shirt purchases.
