CANTON, GA – On Sunday, August 17, History Cherokee invites the public to step inside one of Cherokee County’s most unique historic landmarks during a free Rock Barn Open House, taking place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
This is a rare opportunity to explore the interior of the beautiful Rock Barn, originally constructed in 1906 by Augustus Coggins as part of his Crescent Farm. Built from stone pulled directly from the nearby Etowah River, the Rock Barn was designed to be fireproof and served as a secure home for Coggins’s prize harness racing horses.
Today, the Rock Barn has a new life as a special events venue, hosting weddings, lectures, community gatherings, and private celebrations. During the Open House, guests can tour the historic space and learn about its past and preservation. Thanks to the creative support of Divine Details & Design and September Tree Events, the venue will be beautifully staged to showcase how it can be transformed for weddings and other special occasions.
Donated to the Cherokee County Historical Society—now History Cherokee—in 1987 by the Cherokee County Board of Education, the Rock Barn was preserved and renovated through community fundraising efforts.
With a capacity of up to 180 guests for reception-style events, the Rock Barn features a full kitchen, restrooms, dressing room, and includes tables and chairs—making it a favorite rental choice for couples, families, organizations, and local businesses.
Whether you’re interested in history, looking for a unique venue, or just want to explore a community treasure, History Cherokee welcomes you to stop by and discover the story behind the stone walls of the Rock Barn.
