Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia Celebrates $150,000 Grant from Publix Super Markets Charities

Grant Monies to be Used for Whole-House Build at Pinewood Heights 14-homesite Habitat Community in Gainesville

Roswell, Ga. (May, 2024) — Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia (HH-NCG) recently celebrated receiving a $150,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities that will be used to fund a whole-house build at HH-NCG’s Pinewood Heights 14-homesite neighborhood in Gainesville.

The grant will fund the complete construction of a three-bedroom, two bathroom single-family home built with the sweat equity of the new homeowner and dozens of volunteers. Receiving the new home will be Mohammed Azirar and his family. To date, Mohammed has put in over 80 sweat equity hours helping to build other Habitat – North Central Georgia house builds. By the time his home is built, he will have completed a total of 200 hours.

During a celebration held at the homesite on Saturday, May 18, 2024, speakers included:

+ Carter Vaverek, district manager, Publix Super Markets, Inc. – Atlanta Division

+ Steve Napier, executive director of Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia

+ Mohammed Azirar, new homeowner.
