CANTON, GA – History Cherokee is now accepting nominations for its annual Historic Preservation Awards, which recognize outstanding efforts to preserve and protect the historic places that tell the story of Cherokee County.
Each year, History Cherokee honors property owners whose dedication to preservation helps maintain the county’s historic character and heritage. Bronze plaques are awarded to recognized properties as a way to encourage, promote, and educate the community about the benefits of historic preservation. No restrictions or limitations are placed upon the recognized properties.
Historic sites and structures must be at least 50 years old and should demonstrate exceptional success in preserving historic features or original designs. Properties that have been recently rehabilitated, as well as those that have been carefully maintained over many years, are eligible for consideration.
“We are fortunate to have so many property owners in Cherokee County who are committed to preserving the places that connect us to our shared history,” said Chuck Douglas, interim executive director for History Cherokee. “These awards celebrate the individuals and families who invest their time and resources into protecting our community’s historic legacy.”
