CANTON, GA — The Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) will host their annual Cherokee Career Expo this Wednesday, October 8, at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center, connecting more than 20 local employers to Cherokee jobseekers.
This year’s Career Expo will feature employers across a variety of fields — including the Cherokee County School District, Dumaplast, First Class Healthcare, Universal Alloy Corporation, Next Step Ministries and Roytec Industries. Job seekers can explore a wide array of local career opportunities, network with Cherokee’s top employers and even participate in on-site interviews.
Jobseekers will have the chance to explore career opportunities in fields such as business development, operations, management, law enforcement, education support, sales, skilled trades (including electricians and machinists), production, healthcare (LPNs, RNs, paramedics), project management, millwork, communications, finance, engineering, maintenance, and more.
The Cherokee Career Expo is free and open to all jobseekers. Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their resume and dress professionally.
Partnering agencies will also provide in-person resume and interview assistance during the Cherokee Career Expo. Beginning at 1 p.m. on October 8, registered jobseekers will have the opportunity to receive live feedback at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center in Canton. Computers and printers will be available for updating and printing resumes before meeting with potential employers.
COED also partnered with Goodwill of North Georgia to help jobseekers prepare prior to the expo. In addition, Goodwill hosted four Cherokee Career Expo Jobseeker Virtual Bootcamps, where participants learned how to navigate a career expo, developed an elevator pitch, received resume assistance, and prepared for interviews. In preparation, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce also hosted Cherokee Work Readiness, a free event that helped jobseekers enhance their résumé, practice interview skills and strengthen their job search strategies.
Since its launch ten years ago, the Cherokee Career Expo has matched local talent with many Cherokee employers. Last year, the Cherokee Career Expo saw nearly 300 jobseekers pre-register to connect with employers in Cherokee County.
Cherokee County remains a hub of talent and education, with a highly skilled workforce and a top-tier school system. Paired with its vibrant communities, it’s no wonder Cherokee is among the fastest-growing counties in Metro Atlanta.
“We want our residents to be able to live and work in their home community,” said Heath Tippens, President at COED. “The Cherokee Career Expo bridges the gap between local employers and our educated workforce.”
Registration for job seekers is free and can be completed online before the event at cherokeega.org/career-expo, or day-of the event. If you are unable to attend the event, you can still take advantage of career opportunities in Cherokee County at jobs.cherokeega.org.
