(Dec. 11, 2024) – Cherokee County Senior Services is set to deliver gifts for roughly 500 seniors after a successful Adopt-A-Senior program.
After an urgent call for donation just two weeks ago, the community answered in abundance, fulfilling the need to assist not only the home-delivered meal clients but also clients of the congregate program at the Senior Centers in Canton and Ball Ground.
“We want to thank all of those who donated gifts this year,” said Cherokee County Senior Services Assistant Director Stacy Jones. “We’re happy to report that all of our clients have been adopted, making this year’s program successful.”
Donated gift items include towel sets, gift cards, books of stamps, canned food, non-perishable foods, candies, cookies, snacks, full-sized toiletries, hand soaps/sanitizers, word searches, playing cards, batteries, calendars, tissues, magnifying glass, medicine bottle/jar opener and eyeglass chains.
Senior Services accepted donations starting in October through Saturday, Dec. 7. The program, which has been in effect for more than 20 years, serves on average over 350 seniors, many of whom are also clients of the county’s Meals on Wheels program.
“Adopt-A-Senior has been a cherished tradition for many years and its success is largely due to the dedication of our Meals on Wheels staff,” said Cherokee County Senior Services Director Tim Morris. “I want to thank Brittany Kiser, our Meals on Wheels Coordinator, and Joy McEuen, our Compliance Manager, along with the entire Senior Services team for their hard work in collecting and organizing gifts for every senior in our program.”
