(MARCH 18, 2026) — Senior Center clients from Canton and Ball Ground donned their best green attire and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day marching for meals.
The Cherokee County Senior Center participated in the 2026 March for Meals Campaign, a nationwide initiative to help raise awareness and support for senior nutrition programs.
“For many senior citizens in our community, we don’t only bring them food, we bring them hope, compassion, and care,” said Senior Services Director Stacy Jones. “Our Meals on Wheels team does a great job making connections with our clients and ensuring they have what they need, even if it goes beyond their Meals on Wheels delivery.”
Nationwide, more than 7 million older Americans face food insecurity. In 2025, Cherokee County’s Meals on Wheels Program, led by five staff members and more than 50 volunteers, served 262 seniors with over 47,000 meals. The Senior Services staff and the community served those same clients with holiday gifts at Christmas with the Adopt a Senior program. There currently is a waitlist for Cherokee County’s Meals on Wheels program.
About 60 seniors were all smiles as they traveled around the Senior Center parking lot with their handmade signs encouraging support for senior nutrition programs. The march culminated as seniors placed pinwheel flowers around the banner by the road to shout to the community how important ending food insecurity for senior citizens is.
“Community support for Meals on Wheels is essential,” Jones said. “Any amount large or small can help make a difference in the life of a Cherokee senior.”
