CANTON, GA — The Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) will host their annual Cherokee Career Expo this Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center to connect local jobseekers to Cherokee’s premier employers.

This year’s Career Expo will feature several of Cherokee’s employers — including the Cherokee County School District, LGE Community Credit Union, Dumaplast, Universal Alloy Corporation and Jaipur Living. Job seekers can explore a wide array of local career opportunities, network with Cherokee’s top employers and even participate in on-site interviews.

Since its launch ten years ago, the Cherokee Career Expo has matched local talent with many Cherokee employers. Last year, the Cherokee Career Expo saw nearly 300 jobseekers pre-register to connect with employers in Cherokee County.

COED partnered with Goodwill of North Georgia to help jobseekers prepare prior to the expo. Goodwill hosted two Cherokee Career Expo Jobseeker Virtual Bootcamps on Sep. 11 and two more on Sep. 23. Bootcamp participants learned how to navigate a career expo, develop an elevator pitch, receive resume assistance and prepare for interviews.

Goodwill is also providing in-person resume and interview assistance during the Cherokee Career Expo as well. Beginning at 1 p.m. on Sept. 25, registered job seekers will have the opportunity to receive live feedback at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center, 1130 Bluffs Pkwy, in Canton. Computers and printers will be available for updating and printing resumes before meeting with potential employers.

The Cherokee Career Expo is part of COED’s Work In Cherokee campaign, aimed at helping Cherokee County residents forget the commute and get precious time back by working in-county. As part of Work In Cherokee, COED launched their Cherokee Job Board website, jobs.cherokeega.org, and is offering a $1,500 Hiring Bonus to new hires to the Cherokee workforce hired between Jan. 1 and July 21, 2024.

“Since I’ve been working closer to home, I’ve been able to wake up later and have more time to hang out with my family,” said previous jobseeker Sean O’Kelley. “I would say if you’re on the fence about whether to go or not, the biggest reason to go is because you don’t know what will happen. When I went, they liked something on my resume, brought me in, and I basically created a job for myself at the interview.”

The Cherokee Career Expo also gives local employers the opportunity to tap into Cherokee’s top talent.

“The Cherokee Career Expo always brings in a lot of skilled jobseekers, but the quality of candidates gets better every year,” said 2023 participant Tim May, Training and Safety Manager at Roytec Industries.

Cherokee County remains a hub of talent and education, with a highly skilled workforce and a top-tier school system. Paired with its vibrant communities, it’s no wonder Cherokee is among the fastest-growing counties in Metro Atlanta.

“Cherokee has the workforce, has the talent and has the quality of life,” said COED President & CEO Misti Martin. “We want our residents to be able to live and work in their home community, while we support local employers with qualified hires – the Cherokee Career Expo brings those goals together.”

Registration for job seekers is free and can be completed online before the event here, or day-of the event. If you are unable to attend the event, you can still take advantage of career opportunities in Cherokee County at jobs.cherokeega.org.
