(DEC. 4, 2024) — Professionalism and training are cornerstones of the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency’s operations, and two members of the team have recently enhanced their credentials, which will enrich the service to Cherokee County residents.

“Our Emergency Management team takes its role in public safety seriously and works diligently to ensure staff is up to date on not only the required training but also providing additional enhanced training opportunities that gives them the tools to better serve our residents,” said Chief Marshal Dana Martin, who oversees EMA as the Public Services Agency Director. “They are a small team doing great work and leading emergency preparedness training and operations throughout the county. I continue to be impressed with their level of professionalism and dedication.”

EMA Director Daniel Westbrook was elected in November to serve as the first vice president of the Emergency Management of Georgia Board of Directors. He will serve in the role for two years beginning Jan. 1, 2025.

The first vice president EMAG steps in to perform all duties of the president in the president’s absence or disability. The first vice president also is responsible for preparing programs for the general membership meetings in addition to serving on the Board of Directors.

Deputy Director Rebecah Logan recently earned her Advanced Certified Emergency Manager certification.

The basic level of certification is required for local directors and deputy directors. The advanced certification is optional but provides more training for agency leaders who respond in times of crisis. This type of training was recently put to use when Logan answered the call for assistance and was deployed to South Georgia to assist with their Emergency Management operations during recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene. Additionally, Cherokee County’s Emergency Management team provides training and planning for other county departments and agencies to prepare for emergencies and crises.

The Emergency Management Agency provides comprehensive and aggressive emergency preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery programs for county citizens to save lives, protect property and reduce the effects of disasters. Emergency management requires specialized training with federal, state and local partners, as well as developing strong networks for both education and assistance when needed.
